Fund of the Week: PNRZX Jennison Natural Resources

PNRZX Jennison Natural Resources was up 2.68% which sadly, was the best performance last week of the funds I track. The best performing funds were from a variety of categories, but none of them did well.

Foreign Funds and Long Term Government bond funds took a pounding with EFV iShares MSCI EAFE Value Index losing the most, down -7.59%.

Portfolio Update 1/23/09: Southbound Pachyderm

This market is heading down faster than a southbound pachyderm.

My IRA showed more life on Friday than he other mutual fund (and ETF) portfolios, but it was not enough to keep it from falling into last place.

Portfolio Update 1/16/09: I Won't Back Down

Well that was another ugly week. Nevertheless, I won't back down.

Will we plummet back to the lows we hit in Dec? Will we go lower? Will watching the video above fill us all with overwhelming despair?

The ETF 20 fell back into third place in my experiment, but it is hard to get excited when all the markets are backing down...

Fund of the Week: MGFIX Managers Bond (Which I sold two weeks ago...)

MGFIX Managers Bond fund gained 3.03% and had the best one week performance of all 100 funds (give or take a few) in my experiment. I actually owned this one, but sold it at the end of 2008 as it has seriously lagged its peers since I purchased it and I wanted to sell some losers to write the taxes off against capital gains and income.

The fund I bought, TGMNX TCW Total Return Bond N did ok, gaining 1.49% in the week.

That would have put it in the top 10 funds this week, but still is only half as good as the performance Manager's Bond put up. The other 9 funds in the top 10 were all bond funds.

Real Estate took another hit and the other losers were all over the map. SSREX SSGA Tuckerman Active REIT dropped the most losing -7.65%. Not even 10 days into 2009, it is already down over 10% since Jan. 1st.

Portfolio Update 1/11/09: When You're Falling

Week two of 2009 and the portfolios lost everything they gained in week one and then some.

Hard to keep focused when you're falling.

Only the Three Fund Index clings to a loss of less than one percent on the year.

Portfolio Update 1/2/09: Alright

So far in 2009 the markets are doing alright.

But the WylieMoney portfolio could not keep up with the ETF 20 and has fallen back to third place.
